We flew to California the week before Christmas to find a house. On Monday morning, we drove to a quiet little neighborhood in Burbank and viewed a 2-bed, 1.5-bath craftsman-style house just three miles away from Disney Animation Studios. After checking out several other properties in different L.A. neighborhoods, we decided that the first house was the one for us. We hurried back with our housing applications and got approved to sign our lease the next morning!

The owner and his wife live next door and are as accommodating as can be. They are originally from Mississippi and Kentucky, respectively, but worked in the film industry in California for thirty years before retiring. Since we signed our lease two days before our return flight to Texas, we decided to use the time to paint the bedrooms in the house. When we asked the owners, they not only said yes–they lent us all the equipment we needed to get the job done!

There is an elementary school at the end of our street. When we were there painting, we saw the kids walking home for lunch and then back to school. Who knew people still did that? We’re very excited to spend the holidays with our families and get all our things moved to California and settled in our first house together!
